Factory tow hooks are for towing a vehicle on flat ground, not for snatching one out of a bog. There is no industry standard covering them, which is exactly the confusion ARB set out to fix with an engineered, vehicle-specific recovery point.
The issues with generic tow points are mounting locations nobody has tested, uncertainty about which shackle and strap to pair with them, and their inability to handle the loads of an angled pull. ARB rates each recovery point as part of a matched recovery chain.
