On a 6.0L Power Stroke the engine oil does more than lubricate and cool — it also drives fuel injection through the high-pressure oil pump. Oil temperature is not a secondary concern on this engine.

The factory oil cooler manages that well enough until it plugs with contaminants from poor coolant or oil quality, which is when temperature climbs and the EGR cooler downstream starts to suffer.
