A factory alternator is sized for a factory truck. Add lights, a winch, a compressor, a fridge, a second battery or a serious stereo and the margin disappears — the symptoms are dim lights at idle and batteries that never quite come back up.

This Mean Green unit produces 375 amps at just 2,000 rpm, which is the number that actually matters — an alternator that only reaches its rating at high rpm is not much use to a truck idling with the lights on.

The build is aimed at surviving a diesel engine bay: a tool-steel rotor shaft supported at both ends by heavy-duty double-sealed bearings, and heavy-duty solid copper stator windings sealed with high-temperature insulation.
