Steering wander on a solid-axle heavy-duty truck comes from accumulated slop — worn joints, a tired box, a track bar that no longer locates the axle. Left alone it eventually produces death wobble, the violent self-sustaining shake that takes both hands and a lower speed to stop.

The steering box is often where it starts. A worn box has play in it that no amount of front-end work elsewhere will take out, and the factory box on these trucks is not the strongest part of them.

Red-Head build these boxes in Washington state. They are not the generic rebuilt box from a parts counter — the difference shows up as steering control and as how long the box stays tight.

It lets you keep the factory steering shaft and the stock pitman arm, which matters on a lifted truck with a dropped pitman arm: there is no need to change the pitman arm to fit the box.
