High-pressure oil pump for the 1994–1995 OBS 7.3L Power Stroke.
The 7.3 uses a HEUI fuel system, so the injectors are fired by high-pressure engine oil rather than a mechanical pump. When the HPOP wears the truck cranks without starting, starts hard cold, or loses power under load.
This is the HP004X, the correct pump for 1994 and 1995 only. Those trucks carry the anti-drainback check valve inside the pump; from 1996 Ford moved that function into a redesigned front timing cover and fitted the HP005X. The two do not interchange in either direction, and fitting the wrong one causes exactly the hard-starting symptom you were trying to fix.
If your truck is a 1996 or 1997, you want the HP005X instead.
