A turbodiesel makes charge air hot before it makes power. The intercooler is what takes that heat back out, and what it gives back is denser air into the cylinder, lower exhaust gas temperature and a truck that does not lose its composure halfway up a grade with a trailer behind it.

Mishimoto's core for this truck carries 47% more core volume than the factory cooler and is 50% thicker, on cast aluminium end tanks and a bar-and-plate core.

It is a kit rather than a bare cooler: three mandrel-bent polished aluminium pipes, Mishimoto DuraCore silicone boots and constant-tension T-bolt clamps go with it, so the charge air path is replaced end to end.

It suits a stock 12-valve or 24-valve truck as much as a modified one — the gain on a standard engine is in intake and exhaust gas temperature rather than in peak numbers.
